Modern Family: "Our Children, Ourselves"

Another Show I should be writing about regularly is the comedy Modern Family. I usually find this show very funny. My thoughts on the episode after the jump.

The show isn’t as funny when they keep the families apart and this episode was no exception to the rule. Even though the episode had many good laughs it was no “Fizbo” or “Manny Get Your Gun” but it was very funny.

The Dunphy plotline, although stupid in theory, was executed really well. Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell did a great job acting concerned for their daughter. I just wish that Ariel Winter had more to do, she only got a few lines and only a few of those were laugh lines.

The Mitchell and Cameron plotline was absolutely hysterical. Jesse Tyler Ferguson did a great job of playing a Mitchell who thought he had a baby with his high school girlfriend. It added a rare serious moment for him (Even though it was played for laughs). Eric Stonestreet also was completely amazing (as usual!) It was also great to see Mary Lynn Rajskub back on television. Even though she was straight faced the entire time she was great. I also loved how the guys came up with names of old girlfriends.

The Jay/Gloria plotline was the achilles heel of the episode. It wasn’t funny at all. As much as I love Sophia Vergara and Ed O’Neill it just didn’t work. The writing was so awful that even the funny people could not save it. (Even Rico Rodriguez wasn’t funny!)

This episode was OK on the Modern Family scale but still very good when compared to other comedies on the air.

What did you guys think?
