My Pick for the first show:
Firefly is a show from Joss Whedon that ran on FOX in 2002. FOX aired the show on Fridays and very out of order, so Firefly joined the brilliant but cancelled club after producing 14 episodes (including a 2 hour pilot). The premise of the series is essentially space cowboys. What it's really about is people who are together on the spaceship Serenity and the adventures they have. The characters on the show are possibly the best on a Joss Whedon show.
The cast features Nathan Fillion (probably best known now for playing Castle on Castle), Gina Torres (who later appeared on 24 among many other shows), Alan Tudyk (he's appeared on Arrested Development, Dollhouse, and V among others), Morena Baccarin (currently starring on ABC's V), Adam Baldwin (now known as John Casey from Chuck), Jewel Staite (Stargate Atlantis), Sean Maher (many guest appearances), Summer Glau (Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles, Dollhouse, and The Cape among others), and Ron Glass (Barney Miller). Many of these actors have had very successful careers after the show aired.
My plan is to review Firefly on Sundays. We will be watching the episodes in the intended order (order on the DVD). The start will be timed with Hulu's posting of the pilot. The first review will post February 13 and reviews will post every Sunday from then until the end of May. The last review I'll be doing is for the movie Serenity which will post last, the first Sunday in June.
I've only seen the first two episodes of the show before so I'm going to be approaching these reviews as a person who has never seen the show before.
For those wondering how can I get access to episodes of this great show it's in a variety of places:
- You can buy it at Amazon.com or any place that sells DVDs
- You can stream it from Netflix if you have a subscription
- You can watch it on Hulu (The first episode will post on Feb 7)
I first discovered Nathan Fillion on "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog". If you haven't seen it, do so. It is 45 minutes of amazingness.
